Community services policy

In October 1990 Council adopted its Community Services Policy, based on its first Social Plan which was to assist in the development and management of Council's Community Services. This policy was updated as new plans were developed and Council's resolutions. The amended policy (pdf 51 KB) is available.

Community directories

Community Directory

Council keeps this directory as comprehensive and up to date as possible. It includes transport, sports organisations, clubs and many other services available generally in the Illawarra and specifically in Kiama and its environs. If these records are incorrect or dated, or your organisation is not included, please use the directory update form on the last page to ensure that corrections or additions are made. The Community Directory also lists information about services for senior residents and for people with a disability.

Community profiles

The Municipality of Kiama Community Profile enables you to analyse the population characteristics of your community, understand how they have changed over time and how they compare to other areas. The profile presents data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census of Population and Housing in 2006, 2001, 1996 and 1991 for the local government area, and for smaller areas within it (e.g. suburbs). This data is presented in easy to use tables, charts and commentary covering a wide range of Census questions. The profile answers the majority of frequently asked socio-demographic questions and assists Council, the general public, students, community groups, organisations, business and investors to become more informed about the community.

  Kiama's Community Profile

The Municipality of Kiama Community Atlas presents key socio-demographic characteristics for the area as interactive maps. Based on data from the 2006 Census of Population and Housing (Australian Bureau of Statistics), each map is prepared using Census Collector Districts providing the finest level of detail to help identify spatial patterns and trends in the area.

Derived from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Census 2001, this information is provided for those who require previous demographic information about the Kiama district's population, housing, religion and other categories.

Social plans

Community Social Plan (pdf 888 KB)

The Community Social Plan 2010 - 2012 is an interim document until Council completes its Community Strategic Plan as part of the Integrated Planning Reporting framework.

 

The Social Plan 2004 has been the most comprehensive social plan attempted by Council. Based on background information, the introduction to the Social Plan was the result of a community survey and consultation that resulted in this most valuable document. Plans for focus groups included Aboriginal People, Children, Older People, People with a Disability, Women, Culturally and Linguistically diverse and Young People.
