Community Respite Service

What is it?

Respite services are provided to carers to strengthen and maintain the caring relationship by providing a break from their caring responsibilities.

The service can be provided from the home of the care recipient on a one-to-one individual basis. The aim during this time is to provide the care recipient with social support and interaction from a substitute carer while the primary carer engages in other activities outside of the home.

The Kiama Council Community Support Respite Service also operates a bowling outing on Tuesday evenings for younger people with a disability

Who is it for?

Respite Services provides support to frail, older people and younger people with a disability and their carers living in the Kiama Local Government Area. This service is not for people who require emergency assistance or those with complex care needs.

Process of referral

Referral can be made by individuals, carers, family members, friends or government and non-government agencies. The referrer must have the person’s permission to make the referral before it will be accepted.
