Neighbour Aid

What is it?

The Neighbour Aid program provides assistance by a companion (paid worker or volunteer), either within the home or while accessing community services. The service is primarily directed towards meeting the person’s need for social contact and/or accompaniment in order to participate in community life. Social support includes friendly visiting.

Services may include social visits, shopping support and transportation to appointments where social support is the main need. A Social Bus Trip operates twice a month. The Social Bus Trip provides a day trip to a local outing with lunch. Social Bus Trips are supported by a number of volunteers.

Who is it for?

Neighbour Aid provides support to frail, older people and younger people with a disability and their carers living in the Kiama Local Government Area.

Process of referral

Referral can be made by individuals, carers, family members, friends or government and non-government agencies. The referrer must have the person's permission to make the referral before it will be accepted.
