Cultural Grants

Background

Each financial year Council provides a total $15 000 through two funding rounds to support cultural arts projects within the Kiama local government area.Applications are assessed via the Kiama Cultural Board and recommendations made to Council for approval.

Funding Aim

To support the development and delivery of arts and cultural projects within the Kiama local government area

 

 

Process for applications

  • Applications received by the Kiama Cultural Board
  • Ineligible applications culled
  • Applications reviewed by the Kiama Cultural Board and recommendations made to the Director of Community Services.
  • Director of Community Services reports to Council to seek final decision on successful grant recipients.
  • Both successful and unsuccessful applicants are notified by mail following Council’s decision

Decisions regarding successful applications are binding and no requests for reassessment will be accepted.

Funding Rounds

Council’s Cultural Grants are always open and you may submit your application at anytime. However, applications are only assessed twice a year in March and September.

Closing dates for each submission period are:

  • The 4th Friday in February – successful projects will receive cheques in May
  • The 4th Friday in August – successful projects will receive cheques in November

Funds Allocations

Applicants may apply for up to $3 000.

Funding Criteria

The following funding criteria will be used to assess the relative merit of your project and determine the success of your application:

  • provides a strong sense of community spirit
  • stimulates opportunities for participation and positive community connections
  • improves community and individual self esteem and wellbeing
  • encourages participants to explore and pursue positive arts experiences
  • acknowledges and promotes cultural diversity
  • supports local artists in their development within the arts

Funding Eligibility

To receive funding your application will be assessed against the following eligibility criteria:

  • must have fully completed the application form, paying careful attention to budget breakdown and project description
  • must ensure that the project is not for the purposes of charitable fund raising
  • must understand that funding is not specifically provided for equipment but will be considered based on the individual merits of the project
  • must have completed an acquittal for any previous funding received.
  • can only apply for one year of funding per project
  • will be given preference if you (the applicant) are a resident of the Kiama local government area

Fees and Charges

Normal Fees and Charges on all Council properties and processes will applyAll legal requirements and expenses of the project such as; insurance, Development Applications, traffic management plans etc are the responsibility of the applicant

Reporting

Successful applicants must undertake the following activities:

  • Sign a form accepting the conditions of the grant.

  • Complete a Project Acquittal form within two months of completion of the project, including details of how the funds were spent.

Acknowledgment

All applicants successful in obtaining funds under this policy must acknowledge Council’s contribution in all publicity relating to the events or activities.
