Declaration of interest

Policy

Committee recommendation that the following policy be endorsed as part of the draft Code of Meeting Practice for the declaration of interest by Councillors. The policy is in conformity with the Model Code of Conduct 2004.

1. Where an issue arises in which a Councillor has an interest, that Councillor should stand and declare the interest
2. The declaration shall be recorded
3. The Councillor may voluntarily withdraw from the meeting or may remain, but must take no part in consideration or voting on the issue (subject to (iv) below)
4. Council may resolve to exclude the Councillor from the meeting room during consideration of the issue

At the conclusion of consideration of the issue, the Councillor may resume full participation in the meeting.
