Council adopted the Strategic Asset and Service Management Policy in October 2003. This policy is designed to assist Council to manage the assets and service groups as listed in the policy document.
Asset groups currently involved are BMX and Skate Park Facilities, Boat Ramps, Car Parks, Footpaths, Walking Trails and Tracks, Parks and Reserves, Public Beaches, Public Buildings and Facilities, Public Roads and Stormwater Drainage Systems, Swimming Centres, Tidal Pools, Trees.
To assist Council to fully consider all matters including risks, Council commissioned a Risk Analysis and Report from its risk and asset management consultant, LOGOV Risk Management Services.
The assets and service groups have been developed by Council to provide important strategic infrastructure facilities and services for the municipality. These assets and services are crucial to the community in terms of providing recreational and sporting facilities, pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic flow, efficient and effective control and management of storm water. These and the other asset groups play an important role in maintaining the health, safety and welfare of all residents and visitors to the municipality.
The overall objective of this approach is to create, construct, manage, supervise, control, inspect, maintain and repair all asset categories under the care, custody, control and management of Council to a safe standard and condition. This is, in fact, the highest standard and condition that Council has determined it can reasonably afford in all of its circumstances and having regard to all its statutory obligations and financial, economic, environmental, aesthetic, social or political factors or constraints.
