The following documents are for the use of Kiama's sports clubs to assist them in their operations:
Kiama Council has recently joined the Australian Drug Foundation's Good Sports Program.
Good Sports aims to reduce alcohol and other drug problems, increase the viability of sporting clubs and improve the range and quality of sports options available within the community.
As part of the program, Council will be helping sporting clubs implement alcohol
practices and policies that in turn aim to create a new club
culture that
attracts families
and junior players. Good Sports has also proven to reduce binge-drinking
and underage drinking. This can result in lower alcohol-related harms, including
drink driving, violence and assault. It can also reduce the risk of potential
liability by upholding "duty of care" with respect to the safety
of players, members and supporters.
Sporting clubs which join the Good Sports program will take part in an accreditation program. Clubs which successfully complete the accreditation process will display the Good Sports logo sending an important message to members and the community. It indicates that the club promotes a responsible attitude towards alcohol, and provides a safe environment for players, members, families and supporters.
Kiama Municipality boasts over 50 different clubs for all ages. To find out more about Clubs in the Municipality, Council's Council's Community Information Directory has a full list of Clubs and contact details.
