In NSW, Councils statutory responsibility under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979 and Heritage Act, 1977 is to protect heritage items and conservation areas through their identification in planning instruments.

We have identified a number of Heritage items that are listed in Schedule 5 of Kiama Local Environmental Plan 2011.

Specific clauses in Local Environmental Plan 2011 and Development Control Plan 2012 relate to Heritage items.

Heritage Incentives

We provide heritage incentives to the community via Section 5.10(10) of the Kiama LEP 2011.

We also engage the services of a Heritage Advisor.

The Heritage Advisory Service is a free service provided to the owners of Environmental Heritage items listed in Schedule 5 of Kiama Local Environmental Plan 2011, the services of the Heritage Advisor provides preliminary heritage advice to these owners in relation to possible renovations and additions to buildings/colour schemes, etc.  This service provides significant savings to the owners of Environmental Heritage Items, for this preliminary advice.
