Rivers and estuaries

We maintain river banks where they front public land.

We have well developed coastal and estuary management plans and have Coastal Zone Management Plans in place for the Minnamurra River Estuary and the Crooked River Estuary.

Werri Lagoon is monitored by the Public Works (Manly Hydraulics Laboratory).  It is a shallow, coastal lagoon that is often closed to the sea.  Attempting to keep the entrance open permanently is not technically feasible nor desirable.  Intervention occurs due to the threat of flooding of roads and urban areas and the entrance will be opened by our outdoor staff when certain conditions are reached.  The Werri Lagoon Entrance Management Policy  sets out these conditions along with the Plan of Management for Werri Beach Reserve.

If you are using water craft / jet skis on our rivers please ensure you read our Plan of Management of their use.
