Aboriginal Liaison Officer

To ensure equity of access to Council's facilities and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait people living in Kiama LGA. Providing information, advice and guidance both internally to the staff of Kiama Council and externally to the Aboriginal residents and external agencies on issues relevant to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in the Kiama LGA. Main activities and tasks are as follows:

  • Assist Council to identify needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait residents.
  • Advise on policies and practices in response to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues.
  • Support meaningful engagement between Council and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in our local Municipality


The Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards honour and acknowledge outstanding achievement by Aboriginal people and organisations within our regional community, celebrating the best of Aboriginal talent, culture and community. Wollongong City Council, Shellharbour City Council, Kiama Municipal Council and Shoalhaven City Council organise this event to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Each council takes turns in hosting the Awards with Wollongong Council hosting the 2017 Awards to be held at the Fraternity Club in Wollongong on Saturday 22 July.
