A dividing fence separates neighbouring properties.

Dividing fences can be made out a range of materials; bricks, metal or wood; or may be a ditch, embankment or vegetation such as a hedge.

It does not include a retaining wall, unless the wall is needed to support and maintain the fence.

Talk to your neighbour and agree on the type, cost and how much you will each pay towards a dividing fence before you start any building or repairs.
