Community transport

Illawarra In Home Support provides a community transport option to residents of the Kiama Municipality who are frail aged or who have a disability and are unable to access mainstream public transport or private transport. A referral and assessment for eligibility is required.

Roads

Council maintains 195 kilometres of local roads and 37 kilometres of regional roads. We employ a Road Safety Officer to work with the community and key stakeholders to develop road safety programs.

Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal Card

From Monday 3 November, NSW senior, pensioner and war widow/er customers can enjoy the convenience of travelling with Opal using the new Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card.
Opal fares will remain capped at $2.50 a day for customers using the Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card and after eight paid and completed journeys the rest of the week's travel is free. 

Ordering a card is easy

The Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card is only available by going online at opal.com.au or by calling 13 67 25 (13 OPAL). Customers will need to validate their entitlement when ordering before they can receive their Opal card.

Opal card retailer

You can load as little as $10 on an Adult Opal card, $2.50 on a Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card** and $5 on a Concession** or Child/Youth Opal card using cash, debit or credit card or EFTPOS*.

* May be subject to retailer minimum transaction value.

This Opal card is only available for the following card holders:

  • NSW Seniors Card
  • Pensioner Concession card
  • NSW War Widows card

The Concession Opal card, which is the appropriate Opal card for tertiary students, will be available later in the Opal card rollout.

Pensioner Excursion Tickets are still available

Customers can choose to use an Opal card or keep buying Pensioner Excursion Tickets (PET).
