Improved tourist accommodation planning

Kiama Council is seeking feedback on changes to planning regulations concerning tourist accommodation in the Municipality.

The proposed changes would provide greater clarity regarding short-term rentals, bed and breakfasts and eco-tourist facilities.

The changes include:

  • A stand-alone policy for short-term rental accommodation, to help operators properly manage their  facilities. This includes setting a maximum number of adult guests and visitors, as well amenity and safety standards for users and nearby residents.
  • Establishing clearer planning controls for bed and breakfast and farm stay accommodation, and introducing specific controls for eco-tourist facilities. This will assist operators and neighbouring property owners.
  • Permitting bed and breakfast accommodation throughout the rural areas of the Municipality, including primary production zones.
  • Permitting eco tourist facilities in rural landscape and environmental management zones, provided there is a connection with the ecological, environmental and cultural values of the site or area.

The proposed changes are on public exhibition until 4pm, Thursday 30 October.
