Soul of Gerringong has won Destination Kiama’s inaugural ‘Above and Beyond’ Award, which recognises excellence in tourism in the region.

Chair Matt Brown said Soul of Gerringong was selected by the judges from a very competitive field.

“Destination Kiama received several nominations from guests who praised Soul of Gerringong as a beautiful accommodation property,” Clr. Brown said.

“Importantly though, it was the crafting and delivering of a ‘visitor experience’, including excellent customer service that won over the judges.”

Clr. Brown said the ‘Above and Beyond’ Awards were all about recognising outstanding efforts to make every visitor feel a welcome guest, and to show them the best Kiama has to offer.

“Everyone knows that Kiama is a beautiful place to visit, up there with tourist hot spots across the globe.”

“The challenge is to match our international reputation as an iconic destination with an international reputation for welcoming and taking care of our visitors and guests.”

“What we heard from the guests of Soul of Gerringong were examples of Simone Mathews and her team not just doing the simple things well, such as spotless cleaning, but also the unexpected yet memorable extras such as fetching coffees from the local coffee shop on a Sunday morning.”

“Another great aspect of Simone’s approach to running Soul of Gerringong has been the close working relationship she has developed with other local businesses.”

“The important thing about the ‘Above and Beyond’ Awards is that they focus on the effort of everyone who works in the local tourism and hospitality industry.”

“That means no matter how large or small, upmarket or entry-level your business, whether you are a receptionist, chef, cleaner or bus driver, it’s the welcome you provide your guest that matters.”

The next ‘Above and Beyond’ Award will be announced at the Tourism After Hours function on Wednesday 18 July.
