Kiama Council contractors are replacing the concrete culvert adjacent to Surf Beach on Barney Street.
The contractors will remove the existing culvert, which has concrete cancer, and instal its replacement.
The $600,000 project involves:
- Demolishing and removing the existing concrete culvert and base slab
- Installing the new concrete piling, base slab, street kerb and gutters
- Constructing a new pedestrian walkway and safety barriers
- Realigning approach roads, kerbs, gutters and crash barriers
- Providing new line marking and traffic signs
- Installing new stormwater pits and pipes
- Relocating utility services and reinstating the construction site
The work is part of Council’s maintenance program for our Municipality’s stormwater network.
The stormwater network is one of our largest assets, worth more than $34 million.
The network has 80 kilometres of pipes, channels and litter traps as well as 3900 storm water pits.
Maintenance of this critical piece of infrastructure is made possible by the stormwater management charge.
