Council response to flooding

Published on 10 August 2020

Kiama Council staff continue to assess the impact of storms and flooding over the weekend.

Our staff are still registering issues, especially in Gerringong, and work with affected residents.

We are also assessing damage to our own facilities, especially the Jamberoo School of Arts, which has been heavily affected.

Council staff are working with Jamberoo Preschool, which is a tenant of the building, to assess the damage and provide support for a property insurance claim

A hygienist is also being organised to inspect the building, once it has dried out, to ensure it is safe for the children to return.

A project to provide a long term solution for the School of Arts is scheduled for this financial year.

We are now investigating interim measures such as upgrading the rear doors.

Other Council properties affected by the storms include:

o          Gerringong RFS Station

o          Werri Beach Holiday Park

We urge residents to avoid driving, walking or playing in flood waters.

We also ask everyone to be careful as waters subside, as new potholes or other hazards may emerge.
