Kiama’s Director of Planning, Environment and Communities, Jessica Rippon, has today announced that after 4.5 years at Kiama Council she will be leaving the organisation to seek a new opportunity and role.
“The organisation is at a pivotal time and moment especially with the election drawing so close. I believe that it is important to align my departure with the caretaker period to allow the organisation the opportunity to make change and move forward, before the new Council starts.”
“Having been in local government for more than 20 years, 15 years at Shoalhaven Council and 4.5 years at Kiama, it is time for me to take on a new opportunity and place to work.”
“I am proud of what has been completed and achieved during my time at Council, and of the wonderful team that has been created to serve the community.”
“Some of my highlights include the completion of the Kiama Town Centre DCP and LEP, the new Grants and Donations Framework, the Child Safety Policy and the Coastal Management Plan.”
“There has also been significant progress towards our Reconciliation Plan and the rebuilding of our relationships with our First Nations community.”
“Our Youth Services and cultural development programs have also been enhanced and rebuilt, with increased connection to our local schools, youth and parents.”
“I am pleased to have contributed to the ongoing sustainability of the organisation, especially through the reclassification process for Blue Haven Bonaria, to enable its sale. I am also glad to have finalised the Leisure Centre Service Review and Library Service Review, which are key components of the Performance Improvement Order.”
“My biggest highlight has been the recent completion of the draft Growth and Housing Strategy, with over 300 submissions it is clear, that the community are engaged and part of the decision-making process. I look forward to seeing what results are in the future and thank the community for their engagement in this discussion.”
“I have also really valued the strong connection and collaboration I have shared with the community that I care so much about and of the partnerships that have been formed to support growth and opportunity.”
CEO of Kiama Council Jane Stroud thanked Ms Rippon for her contribution to the organisation saying, “Jessica and I have worked closely over the last few years, and I have valued her advice and leadership at the executive level. I personally wish her all the best for her future endeavours and remain grateful for her skills and professionalism during some tough challenges such as COVID, inducting a new Council, financial sustainability matters, organisational restructure and the Blue Haven divestment decisions. Jessica can look back with pride at the team she has built, and the work she and her Directorate achieved.”
Ms Stroud further stated that recruitment for the Director role will commence shortly.
