Finance graphs and July 2022 rates notice

Published on 28 July 2022

Council has produced a graph of its projected revenue and expenditure for 2022-23, which has gone out with this week's rates notice.

The figures in the graph are drawn from our 2022-23 Budget, which was endorsed by Council on 30 June. However, the numbers look a little different because the graph includes internal transactions due to the fact it is itemised by department or function.

A printed version of the graphs will be included in July’s rates notice mailout, dispatched this week. Our quarterly rates are due by 31 August 2022.

For those who receive their rates notice via email, or are non-rate payers, we’ve included the graph below.

Since last July, when we introduced new envelopes that encourage ratepayers to receive their rates via email, Council is pleased to report an almost 250% increase in the number of ratepayers who receive e-rates notices, compared to the previous financial year.

This helps save Council and our community time and money.

If you’d like to receive your rates notice via email, visit our homepage and click on ‘make a payment’ to register.

Your rates in Kiama

Council rates are determined by several factors.

In Kiama Municipality, the rate peg for 2022-23 is 2.5% (this includes the 12-month Additional Special Rate Variation, granted by the NSW Government in June).

We also have a stormwater charge and some rural property have on-site sewer management fees (OSSM)

Land Valuations for the purposes of rates are updated every three years in NSW.

The next valuation will have a base date of 1 July 2022 and will be issued by the NSW Valuer General to property owners in early 2023. This will be used to calculate the rates and charges for the 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 financial years.

Compared to other local Councils, Kiama’s average residential rates are in the same band as Shellharbour, Wingecarribee, Wollongong and Newcastle https://www.yourcouncil.nsw.gov.au/compare-councils/
