Kiama Council has opened the new Figtree Lane car park, providing more spaces for Gerringong shoppers.
Mayor Mark Honey has thanked Council staff and contractors for their efforts on what proved a challenging project.
“The geography of the site combined with the need to safely provide a larger car park made this a complicated project from the start,” Clr. Honey said.
“I want to thank the team of staff and contractors who have worked through the many difficulties presented in what was a tight timeframe.”
“I also want to thank the Gerringong community for their patience during what was an important project for them.”
Director Engineering and Works Mike Dowd said, despite the difficulties, the outcome was a significant improvement on the old car park.
“The new layout not only provides 24 extra car spaces over two levels, it also will be a better experience for motorists and pedestrians navigating the car park.”
“There’s now an extra entrance and exit and better line of sight to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.”
