Opening Jamberoo Mountain Rd - Mike Dowd with Mayor Mark Honey and representatives of Public Works Advisory

Kiama Council has reopened Jamberoo Mountain Road in time for the Christmas holidays.

Director Engineering and Works Mike Dowd said contractors had been able to work quickly during dry weather to repair the section of road damaged by flooding in July.

“The team was able to install the new piled retaining wall, enlarged box culverts and resurface the damaged area in a relatively short amount of time considering the challenges of the job,” Mr Dowd said.

“While the road is open I urge motorists to drive carefully, as the line marking has been delayed by recent rain.”

Mayor Mark Honey has thanked Council staff and contractors for their efforts to have Jamberoo Mountain Road re-opened as scheduled.

“Given the scale of the damage done to the road, the steep terrain, and small area to work in, I’m amazed by what they’ve achieved,” Clr Honey said.

“I also want to thank the NSW and Australian governments for their funding and logistical support getting the road repaired.”

The repairs were funded under the Australian Government’s Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.

NSW Public Works Advisory also provided assistance with design and project management.
