Join our Tourism and Economic Advisory Committee

Kiama Council is calling for expressions of interest from passionate and skilled community members to join our Tourism and Economic Development Advisory Committee.

We are looking for four industry representatives with expertise in tourism and economic development to work alongside three Councillors, the CEO, and a member of the Kiama and District Business Chamber.

The committee’s key responsibilities include:

  • Advising Council on tourism and economic development policy, strategy and planning in the Kiama Local Government Area (LGA) and the wider South Coast region to foster long-term growth
  • Providing insights on tourism and economic issues impacting the community, helping to shape solutions that balance growth with sustainability
  • Serving as the primary voice of the tourism and business sectors, offering guidance to Council to ensure the needs of local industries are met
  • Identifying opportunities for investment and innovation to attract businesses and create new job opportunities, strengthening Kiama’s economy
  • Supporting Council in future funding applications for local and state government grants, enabling projects that drive economic benefits
  • Offering strategic advice on key marketing and promotional activities to boost the visitor economy via our tourism brand, 'Destination Kiama'
  • Building stronger community awareness of the economic value of tourism and the broader visitor economy, helping residents understand its benefits
  • Facilitating partnerships between businesses, government, and investors to unlock new opportunities for economic growth and job creation in Kiama
  • Providing comment and recommendation to Council on program applications, including Destination Event Funding.

Key Details:

  • The roles are voluntary, requiring a commitment of attending one meeting every two months for at least two years
  • Applications close at 4pm, Thursday 7 November 2024.
