Mayor Mark Honey has welcomed the arrival of Australia’s best kiteboarders for this weekend’s leg of the National Wave Series at Seven Mile Beach.

Clr. Honey said securing the event for the region showed the strong reputation our municipality has for hosting regional sporting events.

“We have only just finished hosting the Australian Open of Surfing and now we have Kiteboarding Australia setting up camp for the weekend,” Clr. Honey said.

“On top of this, it’s been confirmed we’ll be hosting, with Wollongong, the AusCycling Junior and Masters Road Championships in 2022.”

Clr. Honey said significant effort went into securing key sporting events for the region.

“I want to thank Destination Kiama and Kiama Council for their work that has seen Kiama become a regional sporting hub for an increasing number of sports.”

“Hosting these events brings in athletes, coaches, trainers, family and friends, who stay here and spend money here.”

“It also attracts spectators both on the ground and watching via the various television and streaming channels these sports now employ.”

“Finally, it is simply great to be able to watch such exciting sports, whether on the water or on the road, right here in our backyard.”

Kiama Council is providing funding support to Kiteboarding Australia to assist them with holding their event.
