The existing Kiama Visitor Information Centre amenities are heavily used during weekends and holiday periods and require an expansion in capacity to meet the increased demands of visitors to the area.
Council have previously engaged an Architectural consultant to prepare design plans for an updated amenities facility that incorporates a new external building and refurbishment of the existing building internally and will be compliant with current Australian Standards for disabled access and mobility. Special arborist investigations have also been undertaken to protect two significant Norfolk Island Pines adjacent to the site. Once completed, the new amenities will double the current capacity and provide a clean and modern facility, appropriate for this state significant Kiama Blowhole Point area.
Following a public tender process Council have awarded the contract for construction to Illawarra based Peloton Constructions. Construction will be commencing on Monday 21st September, with works anticipated to be completed before Christmas 2020.
The Kiama Visitor Information Centre and Diggies Café will remain open for business. Temporary public toilets will also be installed for the duration of the works.
The overall value of the project is approximately $500,000, with the project delivery being managed by Kiama Council from grants provided under the NSW Stronger Country Community Fund.
