Local cycleways projects: 2021-24

In September 2021, the NSW State Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole announced a $3.3 million investment under the Active Transport Fund built on the NSW Government’s Future Transport 2056 vision to double the number of commuting walkers and cyclists across the region.
“Projects like this encourage people to walk and cycle as part of their everyday commute, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle and helping to relieve congestion on the roads,” Mr Toole said.
The funds will see the completion of the 7-kilometre Jamberoo Valley Cycleway, linking Jamberoo with the rest of the Kiama cycleway network. (Construction work due to start FY23-24)
Money will also be used for the Omega Shared Path in Gerringong, which will be extended between Omega Flat and Fern Street. (Work due to start early 2023)
The funding will also open up bike access in the Kiama town centre and the Minnamurra Bike Skills Track (work scheduled for 2023).
Council will continue to investigate improvements to the road shoulders on the Princes Highway around the Kiama bends.
October 2023 update
The footpaths linking Minnamurra Bike Skills Track to local roads have been completed.
In September 2023, Council resolved to decline any tenders and cancel the proposed works on the Omega Shared Path in Gerringong. The grant with Transport for NSW will be rescinded for the unexpended portion.
Council is working with a design consultant for the Jamberoo Valley Cycleway and will update the public on this project shortly.
