We're looking at ways to make improvements to Road Safety in the Fern Street precinct, following concerns raised by the community and business owners regarding difficulties pedestrians are having in crossing Fern Street south of Belinda Street since the Post Office was relocated in the vicinity.
Council is proposing the installation of a pedestrian refuge on the southern side of the Gerringong Town Centre that aligns with the pedestrian pathway from Chittick Place. The proposal will consist of concrete medians and kerb blisters, new signage and linemarking as shown on the attached plan.
A number of factors were taken into consideration when choosing the site which included pedestrian sight lines, minimising loss of on-street parking, driveway accesses, proximity to the Fern / Belinda Streets roundabout and accessibility to pedestrian linkages.
Council has allocated funding in its 2020/21 budget and is currently seeking your comments on the proposal.
Submissions for feedback close on Wednesday 26 August 2020 and should be addressed to Council’s Road Safety Officer, Kiama Municipal Council, P.O Box 75, KIAMA NSW 2533 or email Council@kiama.nsw.gov.au
