Next date: Wednesday, 12 February 2025 | 08:00 AM
to 04:00 PM
Following a collapse of the REDcycle soft plastics drop-off scheme, there has been a surge in community support advocating for a sustainable alternative to manage soft plastic recycling.
To support the likelihood of an industry funded permanent option, a regional temporary approach has been developed with participating Councils, Kiama, Shoalhaven, Shellharbour and Wollongong, whereby residents are able to drop off their clean and dry soft plastics at any of the drop-off days established as follows:
Further information
What are Soft Plastics?
Soft plastics are flexible materials that can be easily scrunched into a ball. Here are some examples of the types of soft plastic packaging we accept:
- Plastic bags: clear and coloured
- Biscuit and snack wrappers
- Chip packets and other silver-lined snack wrappers
- Fresh and frozen food wrappers/bags
- Pasta bags, rice bags (both plastic and woven types), bread bags, and cereal liners
- Cling wrap, bubble wrap, and snap lock zip bags
- Document sleeves, mail satchels, and carrier bags
- Plastic pet food bags.
Important reminder: Ensure your plastics are clean, empty, and dry before bringing them to the event.
Where will the collected Soft Plastics be taken?
All the collected soft plastics from this regional trial will be baled then transported to IQ Renew in Taree, NSW. The facility transforms post-consumer soft plastic into high-grade feedstock tailored to various manufacturers needs.
