Jones Beach dog off-leash area (southern end)

An off-leash swimming area at the southern end of Jones Beach.

Dogs are allowed off-leash between sunrise and sunset.

A dog watering station is available.

You must comply with the conditions of use.

Conditions of use

  • Entry or exit only permitted via the beach access track (70m to the south directly behind 118 North Kiama Drive).
  • Owners must take the shortest practical route from the southern Jones Beach car parking area to the designated beach access track.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times outside the designated area, including the designated entry and exit track.
  • Dogs must remain under effective control by a person over the age of 16 and must not be left unattended at any time.
  • Owners and handlers must ensure that their dogs do not interfere with other users of Jones Beach and Jones Beach Reserve.
  • Dogs are only allowed off-leash and to swim in the southern area of Jones Beach. This area is indicated by northern and southern boundary signs on the beach.
  • Dogs are prohibited at all times from all other areas of the beach, including dunes and the rock platform.
  • Owners and handlers are responsible for their dogs actions.
  • Dogs must be registered and identified by wearing a collar and tag.
  • Dog faeces must be immediately removed and properly disposed in bins provided.
  • Dogs must not be allowed to bark consistently and cause a nuisance.
  • Greyhounds, dogs declared dangerous and restricted breed dogs are prohibited.
  • Owners and handlers must comply with the Companion Animals Act 1998 and these conditions of use.
  • Members of the public accessing the dog off-leash area as a recreational activity are advised that Council utilises defences afforded to it under the Civil Liabilities Act 2002.
