NAIDOC Week invites all Australians to acknowledge our history that dates back thousands of generations, embrace our culture, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Kiama Council provide a number of NAIDOC Week activities each year including the hosting of a local Aboriginal Art Exhibition at the Old Fire Station Gallery.

There's also the annual Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards celebrating the contribution and achievements of Aboriginal communities in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. The Award ceremony is held in a different local governmnet area each year and will be held in Kiama in 2023.

Due to COVID the awards were not held in 2020 and in 2021 a video was made showcasing the history and importance of the awards.
