Kiama and Shoalhaven Libraries make up the South Coast Cooperative Library Service. Sharing the library catalogue is part of this cooperation.

Using the catalogue

Library card 1.JPGYou can log on to the library catalogue using your library card number as your user name and your eight-digit date of birth (ddmmyyyyas your password.

While online, you can search the catalogue, view your current loans, renew items, reserve items, update your contact details and view your loan history.

Please be aware a charge may apply to have items sent up from libraries other than Kiama and Gerringong.

Simple search

Simple search

  • Keyword Search - is the default and looks for the search term anywhere within the selected index.
  • Phrase Search - is an alternative to Keyword searching and the 'phrase' entered will result in an exact match, or you must have an asterisk * at the END of the search term to broaden the search term. It is applicable to Titles, Author, Subject and Series searches only.
  • Anyword Index - will retrieve records with the term entered matching Title, Subject, Series, Author. Author/Name Index - will retrieve records with the term entered matching personal, corporate authors, or both.
  • Title Index - will retrieve records with the term entered matching ANY part of their Title, Sub-Title or Additional Title. If the 'Phrase Search' option is being used, the Title search will retrieve all records that start with the entered search term.
  • Subject Index - will retrieve records with the term entered matching the subject entry in a catalogue record.
  • Series Index - will retrieve records with the term entered matching the series entry in a catalogue record.
  • Browse index - provides a list of entries that match your search term.

Advanced Search

  • Sort Preference - allows you to select the order in which records will display.
  • Limit by Publication Year - restricts the search results to titles published within a specific time period.
  • Limit by Collection Type - restricts the search results to titles belonging to a specific collection (eg Adult Fiction, Adult non-Fiction).
  • Limit by Material Type - restricts the search results to titles of a specific material type (eg book, periodical, compact disc).
  • Limit by Location - restricts the search results to a particular location. Limit by Language - restricts the search results to a particular language.

To extend a loan online

Simply select Member login and enter your library card number, a Kxxxxxxx number (use uppercase for S, K). If you have an older card with a member code starting with 9 you will need to add an extra 0 at the end, eg 9000010.

Your date of birth is the password (ddmmyyyy). If you are unable to log in please contact your library for assistance.

Under the heading Items issued, any loans will be listed. Check the loans required for extension and select the submit button.

The loans will now be extended if no one has put a reservation or if the loan period has not been extended twice before.

 

What do I have on loan

Simply select Member Login and enter your library card number, a Kxxxxxxx number, and your eight-digit date of birth (ddmmyyyy)
Enter your member code (use uppercase for S or K). Note, if you have an older card with a member code starting with 9 you will need to add an extra 0 at the end, eg 9000010.
Your eight-digit date of birth is the password, eg 07061973. If you are unable to log in please Contact Us for assistance.
Under the heading Items issued, any loans will be listed.

 

Reserving a library item online

Please follow the procedure to reserve your library item.

  • Search for the item you require.
  • Select the item from the displayed list. On the right hand side of the screen beside the selected item is a Res(erve) option to check.
  • Select the Submit Reserves button.
  • Enter your library card number and birth date (05091976 {5th September 1976}).
  • Select the branch you wish to pick up the item from.
  • Select how you wish to be notified.
  • Add any Reservation Note if required.
  • Select Proceed button.
  • A receipt of the transaction is displayed.
  • Print this out for later reference with the selected Library.
