A place of plenty
A local Aboriginal meaning of Minnamrra is 'place of fish, many birds, reptiles, mammals and aquatic species depend on this natural area for food and shelter.
Minnamurra Wetland has State environmental significance and is surrounded by a great diversity of habitat types including:
- Endangered ecological communties such as Illawarra Subtropical/Littorial Rainforest, Swamp Oak Floodplain Forest and Coastal Saltmarsh.
- Mangroves and Tidal Esturary.
A major threat to these habitats is weeds which compete for soace, light, soil nutrients and water.
This plaque is one of many found around the district. The plaques discribe the history of their locations. They were commissioned by Kiama Council in 2009.
