Variations to development standards

Development standards are outlined in State Environmental Planning Policies or Local Environmental Plans.

They provide a framework of limitations for various aspects of anticipated development with an area including height, floor area and lot size.

The Department of Planning NSW requires Council to submit a report to it of cases where determined development applications have resulted in a variation to a development standard.

Council’s sends its report to the Department of Planning NSW every 3 months.

A variation to a development standard may occur after an assessment of an application under the Kiama Local Environmental Plan (Part 4.6).

The aim of reporting variations to development standards is to allow the Department of Planning NSW and Kiama Council to consider whether development standards are appropriate, or whether changes are needed.
