The Kiama Health Plan is designed to improve the health and well-being of our community and to protect and enhance the environment.
It identifies strategies to address priority issues and is divided in into 5 sections:
- Socially connected, cohesive and diverse
- Healthy and active
- Food secure and food sustainable
- Encourage and enhance a healthy and sustainable economy
- Healthy, protected and sustainable environment
Kiama Council was one of the first councils in NSW to develop a Health Plan and Council remains an innovative leader in this policy area. The first Health Plan was developed in 1998/1999, followed by subsequent plans in 2005-2008, 2011-2017 and the current 2018-2021.
As a result of these initiatives, Kiama was recognised as a World Health Organisation (WHO) Healthy City in August 2008.
Kiama Health Plan 2018-2021
The Kiama Health Plan 2018-2021 has undergone a comprehensive review with the aim of updating the plan’s strategies, and incorporating them into Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework.
The new Kiama Health Plan builds on the work and success of previous Plans, where all Council departments work together to develop a healthier community.
The outcomes of community consultations and subsequent recommendations that informed the revised Health Plan are available in:
Health & Sustainability Committee
The Kiama Health and Sustainability Committee provides opportunity for our community to participate in council planning to improve health and sustainability in the Kiama Local Government Area.
If you would like to find out more about the committee or are interested in joining, contact Naomi Reid, Health Promotion Officer on (02) 4232 0444
We also welcome feedback and suggestions at any time for the continual improvement of the Health Plan.
