Kiama secures festival of football in 2020

Rugby Championships Announcement

Kiama is hosting a festival of football in 2020, with a number of rugby and rugby league tournaments being staged in the municipality.

The Kiama Junior Rugby Club, with the support of Kiama Council and Destination Kiama, has secured the NSW Country Rugby Union Championships.

The Club is hosting the 16s girls and 18s boys and girls’ divisions of the Championships.

The weekend tournament, which is being held in May 2020, coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Kiama Rugby Club.

The South Coast Schools Sports Association is also hosting the NSW Combined High School Rugby State Championships in May.

This builds on the long term success of the Kiama Sevens rugby tournament.

South Coast Schools Sports Association is also hosting the 11 Years Rugby League State Championships in Kiama in June on behalf of the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association.

Each of the tournaments is expected to involve more than 230 players, as well coaches, support staff and families.

The trio of tournaments builds on the success Council and Destination Kiama has had working with local clubs and associations to attract major sports events to the area.

This includes the South Coast Sevens, World Bodyboarding Championship, Skatefest Kiama, World Surf League Junior Championships, Australian Boardriders Battle and Nudie Surf Groms.

The rugby and rugby league tournaments also fit within the strategic direction of Destination Kiama in building visitor numbers during autumn and winter.
