Annual Lifeguard Challenge

The annual inter-council Lifeguard Challenge is back for another year, with Shellharbour City Council hosting the event at Shellharbour North Beach.

This much-loved challenge brings together lifeguards from across the Illawarra and South Coast for a morning of friendly competition, teamwork and coastal community spirit. Kiama’s lifeguard team will be heading north to take part once again, proudly representing our coastline and the important work they do each summer.

Who’s taking part?

Lifeguards from Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven and Wollongong are invited to participate. It’s a great opportunity for crews to connect, test their skills and celebrate the shared commitment to keeping our beaches safe.

What to expect

The Challenge features a series of beach-based team events designed to test fitness, surf awareness, coordination and communication. Spectators can expect plenty of action on the sand and in the water as teams go head-to-head in a supportive, good, humoured atmosphere.

A trophy and prizes will be up for grabs, with bragging rights on the line until next year’s event.

Weather updates

Conditions at the beach can change quickly. If the weather becomes unsuitable or surf conditions make the event unsafe, the Challenge may be postponed or cancelled. Each council will be notified as early as possible so updates can be shared with participants.
