Overview

Your reputation as a food business depends on the safety of your food.

It pays to implement good food safety practices and take all the practical steps you can to avoid foodborne illness outbreaks.

Use our free I'm Alert - Food Safety Training course to keep your food handling practices up-to-date, or complete the Food Handler Basics training offered by the Food Authority to cover all requirements for food handlers under the new Food Standard 3.2.2A - Food Safety Management Tools.

Register your food business

If you operate a food business in the Kiama Municipality you must register it with Kiama Council. 

You are also required to let us know if your business details change.

A retail food handling business is a business, enterprise, or activity that involves the handling of food intended for sale, and/or the sale of food.

They include:

  • mobile food vans
  • temporary food stalls
  • food shops (cafes, restaurants, takeaways, etc)
  • home-based cooking/catering/business.

Food premises must comply with our Kiama Development Control Plan 2020.(PDF, 2MB)

If you are a home-based food business, you need to submit a Development Application.

Register/change business details

Temporary food stalls

You must apply for a temporary food stall permit if you plan to operate one in the Kiama Municipality.

Applications and supporting documents should be submitted to us 21 days before any event or market you wish to trade at.

Mobile food vans

You must apply for a mobile food van permit if you wish to operate one in the Kiama Municipality.

One of our Environmental Health Officers will also need to inspect your vehicle if your vehicle is based in the Kiama Municipality.

Apply for mobile food vendor permit
