Flood studies

Council completed flood studies to meet the NSW Government’s Floodplain Risk Management requirements.

Each study focuses on a particular catchment area in the municipality.

They define the behaviour of flooding in the catchment including:

  • flood levels
  • velocities
  • hydraulic categories
  • provisional hazard categories.

The studies also identify flood-prone land in the event of storm events.

In August 2020, intense rainfall resulted in a natural disaster declaration for our region, with homes and businesses in Gerringong and Jamberoo particularly affected. A 2021 investigation, involving affected communities, developed flood mitigation options for the Bridges Road area of Gerringong and the Whyalla Road and Town Centre areas in Jamberoo. These options are contained in the Draft Gerringong and Jamberoo Flood Study.
