Make September your Spring cleaning month
Published on 18 August 2025
Kiama residents are being encouraged to spring into clean-up action this September and tackle that spare room, garage or man cave.
Kiama Council has a range of events during the month to make the job easier in Second Hand Saturday, Household Bulky Waste Drop Off and Household Chemical Clean Out.
Second Hand Saturday (6 September) is our popular car boot sale that allows residents to sell, swap or trade to their heart’s content.
Those wanting to set up shop can book online.
Registrations close Thursday 4 September.
Next up is our even more popular (and free) Household Bulky Waste Drop Off (13 – 21 September) for items not collected by our kerbside collections.
This includes old mattresses and unwanted furniture, sporting goods, carpets, rugs and baby goods.
A full list of what you can drop off is on our website as is our booking form (registrations open 22 August).
Please make sure you book as places are limited.
Finally, for those problem items lurking in the darkest recesses of your storage cupboards and sheds, there’s the Household Chemical Clean Out (13 December).
This is ideal for poisons, pool chemicals, acids and other nasties, and it’s free.
All you need to do is drop off said items at our Community Recycling Centre at Minnamurra. No bookings needed.
If you can’t manage to take advantage of these events, the Community Recycling Centre is open Monday to Saturday, and can handle a wide range of recyclable and problem items.
