Melissa Matters was born and raised on Wingeewah Farm in Gerringong, with deep family roots in the area as a member of the Miller family, who have a long and distinguished history in Gerringong. She attended Gerringong Primary and Kiama High School, actively participating in local sports such as hockey, cricket, tennis, and golf. Melissa is passionate about serving the community and is eager to take on a broader role in shaping its future through her position on the Kiama Council.
Professionally, Melissa is the co-owner of the popular Hill Bar & Kitchen in Gerringong, which she operates with her husband, Dean. Her experience spans small business ownership and corporate roles in Sydney and Melbourne. She is particularly proud of her leadership in supporting local youth, employing and mentoring young people, and sponsoring various sports clubs, including football, soccer, Oztag, and netball.
Melissa has long been active in the community, volunteering with the Disabled Surfers Association, the Clean Up Australia Day initiative, and local footy and soccer clubs. Her key focus as councillor is to foster sustainable growth and ensure that community input plays a central role in future development.
In her personal life, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband and family, and she is committed to maintaining Gerringong’s vibrant and welcoming spirit.
