Council streamlines Policy for local community groups

If you are a local community group that wants to propose improvements on Kiama Municipal Council facilities and land, a new streamlined policy makes the process more efficient. 

Council last week unanimously voted to approve the Works on Council Owned Facilities and Managed Land (Funding Support) Policy. 

The Policy will ensure the appropriate type of support will be given for community-led grant-funded projects, depending on the nature of the project, the level of commitment being sought, community benefit and its alignment with Council’s Community Strategic Plan, strategic priorities and long-term financial plans. 

It will also ensure requests for support are assessed and managed in a fair, efficient, transparent and equitable manner, and that the roles and responsibilities of Council staff, elected members and applicants, are clearly defined.

This Policy will be supported by an internal Works on Council Owned Facilities & Managed Land (Funding Support) Procedure, which will detail the whole-of-life operational processes.

There is a wide range of application requirements relating to notice periods, assessment criteria, approval workflow, grant-funding submissions and project completions that need to be undertaken by Council staff in assessing, supporting and delivering proposals.

It is imperative that organisations gain approval from Council before progressing any grant applications, development application, construction works or purchases of equipment and materials.

“A clear and consistent approach ensures these projects are aligned with Council’s Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program and Operational Plan and Asset Management Plans,” Mayor Cameron McDonald said.

“If you’re a local community group or sports club wanting to take the initiative, Council welcomes the submission of proposals under the new application process.”
