NSW Government endorses Kiama’s Local Housing Strategy
Published on 24 November 2025
Kiama Council is proud to announce that its Local Housing Strategy, adopted by Council in July, was endorsed by the NSW Government on 1 October 2025. This endorsement is a strong signal that the State Government has confidence in the strategy’s implementation and recognises it as a well-considered, practical plan for guiding future housing decisions in our region.
The Local Housing Strategy sets out how Kiama will meet housing needs over the next 20 years, balancing growth with the character and lifestyle that make our area unique. NSW Government endorsement confirms that the strategy aligns with state-level planning frameworks and priorities, ensuring Kiama’s approach is consistent with broader regional goals.
Mayor Cameron McDonald said: “This endorsement shows that our Local Housing Strategy is not only community-driven but also meets the rigorous standards of state planning. It positions Kiama to plan for sensible growth while protecting what makes our towns special.”
Endorsement also opens the door to potential future funding and resources, strengthening Council’s ability to deliver infrastructure and housing diversity in line with the strategy’s priorities.
Our new animated video provides a clear and engaging overview of the strategy, including its focus on sustainable development, housing diversity, and infrastructure planning.
We encourage all residents to watch the video and share it with friends and family.
