Local Roads Betterment

Kiama Council was successful in securing grant funding to undertake betterment projects on several local roads in our municipality.

Council thanks the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development for its funding support through the NSW Betterment Program - Infrastructure Betterment Fund (IBF).

Council also thanks the Office of Local Government for its support via a NSW Severe Weather and Flood Grant.

The breakdown of funding is $4.5m from DPIRD IBF and $400k from the Office of Local Government.

Underway

In the coming months, the following works will be continuing:

Jamberoo Mountain Road

  • Widen road and major culvert near Barren Grounds Entrance (June/July)
  • Install new kerb and gutter near misty lane (May)
  • Concrete Line appx 1000m of table drains that have already been excavated (May)
  • Repair various minor culvert inlets and outlets (June)
  • Spot - Pavement repairs appx 15 locations (July)
  • Final re- line marking from barren grounds to bottom of hill (August)

Wallaby Hill Rd

  • Repair slope failure of appx 100m zone (Sept/Oct)
  • Repair and reseal upper sections of road (May)
  • New Guard Rail installation (Sept/Oct)

Foxground Rd

  • Hazard reduction pruning of trees (June)
  • Upgrade both the lower and upper causeways to culvert crossings (Aug)
  • Repair existing concrete lined table drains (Sept)

 

To limit traffic flow impacts, works will be undertaken in short stages moving from road to road.

Updates on the exact time of each package of works on particular roads will be made in advance.

Completed works for this project 

Jamberoo Mountain Road

  • Contract awarded to Coal Coast Civil Pty Ltd for next major package of works
  • Topographic Survey, Geotechnical investigations and drilling at the Major Culvert located near the Barren Grounds turnoff
  • Continued hazard reduction tree pruning in multiple locations between the Abbey and Barren Grounds
  • Continued to reduce grass/bushes encroachment impacting driver line of sight

Wallaby Hill Road

  • Concept design completed and tender issued for next package of works including slope stabilisation and table drain improvements
  • Unblocking of culverts in key locations

Foxground Road

  • Detailed design completed and tender issued for next package of works including causeways upgrades
  • Reduced grass/bushes encroachment impacting driver line of sight
  • Cleaned away vegetation debris on road surface
