Council delivering Betterment Program works for three key roads

Kiama Municipal Council is delivering Betterment Program projects on three local roads in the coming months.
Council was successful in securing $4.9 million in grant funding and is moving ahead with conducting works at Jamberoo Mountain Road, Wallaby Hill Road and Foxground Road.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s NSW Betterment Program - Infrastructure Betterment Fund (IBF) has provided $4.5m in funding with a further $400,000 from the Office of Local Government via a NSW Severe Weather and Flood Grant.
Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald said the safety upgrades were crucial for these three roads.
“These roads need the ongoing upgrades to improve the level of safety to reduce the level of risk to drivers on these roads,” he said.
“Jamberoo Mountain Road is a vital link road with the Southern Highlands.
“We continue to work closely with residents of the three roads to ensure the disruptions are minimal and to seek their input.
“Our Council crews have done a great job already in removing vegetation build-up on these roads.”
As part of the Betterment Program, which started in September 2025, the works have included hazard reduction, a topographic survey and geotechnical investigations at Jamberoo Mountain Road, table drains and culvert upgrades at Wallaby Hill Road, as well as Council crews reducing grass/bushes encroachment impacting driver line of sight and vegetation debris on the surface at Foxground Road.
To limit traffic flow impacts, works will be undertaken in short stages moving from road to road. The next package of works is due on Wallaby Hill Road on Tuesday, 5 May. Updates on the exact time for works on each road will be made in advance on Council’s social media channels.
