Renewable energy projects

Administration Building photovoltaic system

Overview

We've installed renewable energy and energy efficiency technology in some of our buildings.

We'll continue to explore and install projects as part of our 5 Cities Power Partnership pledges.

Administration Building

Here we've installed a:

  • power factor correction unit
  • voltage power optimisation unit
  • 10kW photovoltaic solar system (accounts for around 5% of the building's energy usage).

Works Depot

Here we've upgraded 40 (400W) mercury vapour lights with 160W high bay induction lights.

Kiama Library

We've installed a 32kW photovoltaic system.

It accounts for approximately 30% of the site's energy consumption.

Street lighting

All street lighting has now been upgraded to LEDs, reducing the consumption by approximately 50%.

Community battery - Kiama Downs

In May 2024 Endeavour Energy and Kiama Council launched Endeavour's second community battery on the NSW’s South Coast.

The Kiama Community Battery is the third and largest community battery on the Endeavour Energy network, offering 445 kWh of storage capacity, and will enable the residents of Kiama Downs to store and share solar, while supporting all customers by keeping a downward pressure on electricity prices.

It features the artwork of Wulbunja Woman, Jodie Stewart which captures the striking geography of the Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven regions.

The Community Battery is part of a program of more than 50 batteries currently being rolled out as Endeavour Energy continues to connect more renewables to the grid. Community batteries at Shell Cove on the NSW South Coast and Bungarribee in Western Sydney are now live, with connected customers benefiting by reducing their household energy through offers from our retail partner, Origin Energy.

EV charging stations at The Pavilion

In November 2024, Kiama Council completed the installation of two Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at The Pavilion, on Bong Bong Street, Kiama.

The two EV charging stations provide four charging ports and are located at the south-east end of The Pavilion car park.

ISJO Shine Hub Community Bulk Buy

Residents and businesses across the Illawarra Shoalhaven region now have access to cleaner, cheaper energy options through the launch of the Community Renewables Program, a joint initiative of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation (ISJO) and its member councils: Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven.

In partnership with delivery provider Shine Hub, the program provides an end-to-end solution to support the community's shift to solar power, battery storage, and participation in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). The Program is designed to reduce energy bills, cut carbon emissions, and empower households and businesses to take control of their energy future.
