Kiama Mayor Neil Reilly takes leave, Deputy Mayor Imogen Draisma assumes Acting Mayor role

Kiama Mayor Neil Reilly has announced a temporary leave from his mayoral duties for a further week and his intention to take some well-deserved annual leave until the end of March 2024. Mayor Reilly will return to his position after the Easter break.

This decision comes as Mayor Reilly addresses a recurring health issue, requiring additional support and a short stay in hospital. He expressed gratitude for the excellent care received and took the opportunity to extend his appreciation to the healthcare staff.

Deputy Mayor Imogen Draisma will be stepping into the role of Acting Mayor during Mayor Reilly's absence. Mayor Reilly expressed confidence in Acting Mayor Draisma, stating, "I know Kiama will be in safe hands with Acting Mayor Draisma at the helm during the next month."

"I trust the Acting Mayor and Councillors will continue this good work in my absence and very much look forward to returning to my role as Mayor on 2 April,” Cr Reilly said.

I am feeling very positive and looking forward to a break and the chance to recharge and relax. Happy Easter to you all."

Reflecting on the recent variation of the Performance Improvement Order by the Minister for Local Government, Mayor Reilly highlighted the well-defined roadmap it provides for the council's focus going forward. He acknowledged the hard work and tough decisions made by the elected Council over the past two years.

Council requests journalists to refrain from contacting Mayor Reilly during this time and directs all media inquiries via the Deputy Mayor and Council’s communications team.

Kiama Council assures the community that, under Acting Mayor Draisma's leadership, the positive momentum and dedication to improvement will persist. Council remains committed to serving the community effectively.
