Rehoming pets

Kiama Council are limited in capacity to take on surrendered pets and therefore urge those who aren't able to look after their pets, to explore alternative rehoming options, prior to contacting Council.

The NSW Government have collated a list of approved rehoming organisations (nsw.gov.au).

If you have exhausted these options, Council will consider accepting your surrendered pet if:

  • There is space for them in our limited facility
  • You can show evidence of having tried to rehome your pet using other options for a minimum of a month
  • The pet is registered, micropchipped, desexed and has a medical history record
  • Is not aggressive, visibly distressed, injured, or otherwise in poor physical health.

If these terms are met a Surrender Animal Fee (please see Council's Fees and Charges for current amount payable) is payable to Council at the time of surrender.
