Showgrounds stalls completion - crews with Gareth Ward - Michael Malone - Cameron McInerney + Mark Croxford

The major refurbishment of one of Australia’s great country showgrounds is nearing completion thanks to Kiama Council and the NSW Government.

The historic Kiama Showgrounds has been undergoing extensive repairs and refurbishments worth $762,000 since 2021.

The Showgrounds have hosted the Kiama Show for more than a century, are the home of the Kiama Rugby Club and Kiama Knights Rugby League Club, as well as the setting for movies, rock concerts, car shows and innumerable weddings.

Kiama Council has now completed a major part of the project, updating the old horse stables behind the main grandstand.

Council’s construction and maintenance staff have built new stockyards in place of the old stables, just in time for the next Kiama Show on 26 and 27 January 2024.

The new stockyards are just one part of the extensive project, which so far has seen a range of improvements, including:

  • Sports field lighting upgrades
  • Electrical supply upgrade
  • New goal posts
  • Two new mobile grandstands
  • New elevated seating on the western side

Remaining tasks involved new irrigation and drainage to the Showground and Chittick Oval, replacing the post and rail fencing and then reseal the carpark and driveway.

The upgrades to the Kiama Showgrounds have been made possible thanks to the NSW Showground Stimulus Program run by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.
