Rates-questions-answered

Got questions about your rates for 2023-24? We’ve got answers!

Ratepayers in the Kiama Municipality have this week received their Notice of Valuation showing the updated land values from the Valuer General of NSW.

Kiama Council will use the new land values to calculate our 2023-24 rates, notices of which will be sent to ratepayers in July.

The NSW State Government’s Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) sets the allowable rate increase (rate peg) for all NSW Councils.

For 2023-24, IPART set Kiama Council’s rate peg at 5.1%, however this figure has been adjusted to 4.2%, due to the Additional Special Variation (ASV) granted for 2022-23.

Kiama Council has published our proposed rate levy for 2023-24 online and notified all our rate payers of the proposed rate levy in a leaflet included with their May 2023 rates reminder notice. View the rates leaflet.(PDF, 83KB)

To help our community better understand how rates are calculated, we have also produced a Rates facts, myths and FAQs page.

If you have questions regarding your land valuation, please contact the Valuer General directly.

Please note, residential rates notices will also contain taxes for Domestic Waste (bin service) and Residential Stormwater.
