Kiama Council thanks TOMRA for upgrading its ‘Return and Earn’ kiosk at Michael Cronin Oval in Gerringong

The ‘Return and Earn’ kiosk has proven extremely popular with locals since being installed in 2018.

In fact, operators TOMRA have now upgraded the kiosk to meet the demand.

TOMRA has replaced the two reverse vending machines (RVMs) with four newer machines.

The new RVMs will not only allow people to process their cans, plastic bottles, cartons and glass quicker.

They will also require less servicing, meaning less truck collections.

A further thanks to the Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward, for helping secure the upgrade.

The new machines will be particularly useful for the Gerringong Lions Club, who have been using kiosk since it opened for their fundraising.

Money raised by the Lions has helped worthy causes like support for the youth, domestic violence and mental health support services, as well as St John’s Ambulance and Marine Rescue Shellharbour.

The Return and Earn deposit container scheme provides 10 cents for every container returned, with $350 million in refunds across NSW each year.

TOMRA operates two RVMs in our municipality, this one at Michael Cronin Oval and the other at Jamberoo Golf Club.
