Kiama Council is replacing the traffic islands on the corner of Belinda St and Rowlins Road in Gerringong, to improve road safety.

Council is installing new traffic islands further away from the intersection to increase the sight distance and safety for pedestrians and drivers.

We are also widening the footpaths leading up to the new crossing.

Background

The Belinda Street Crossing upgrade was jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments under the School Zone Infrastructure sub-program: part of the $540 million Federal Stimulus NSW Road Safety Program.

Council prepared a design in consultation with Gerringong Public School and submitted the proposal to Transport for NSW (TfNSW) for funding.

As a result of receiving acceptance of the funding, Council undertook a public consultation process on the proposed design. This included consultation with NSW Police and the South Precinct.

Submissions opened on 18 January and closed on 14 February 2022. Feedback from the 2 submissions received was positive.

Council also got feedback from Transport for NSW. This resulted in us amending the design slightly to incorporate TfNSW's recommendations to improve safety.
