Cleaning and maintaining rock pools

It's important that we keep our rock pools clean for hygiene, environmental and safety reasons.

When cleaning algae from our pools, sometimes we have to empty the water out of the pools. We take care not to harm any marine life and this can result in the pool being closed for several days at a time.

Cleaning types include:

  • Werri Beach and Gerringong Boat Harbour pools are cleaned using machinery
  • Kiama pools are cleaned using a pressure cleaner.

If these methods don't remove the algae, we may use environmentally safe chemical treatments with advice from the EPA and Department of Fisheries.
